Light Machinery

Aerial Lift (Manlift) (Aerial Work Platform)

This course was developed by Shop Class STX. Participants will gain an understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of Aerial Lift/Scissor Lift operation and safe use.

 **A certificate in Fall Protection Awareness is a prerequisite**

Forklift (Lift-Truck)

This course was developed by Shop Class STX. Participants receive approximately 4 hours of on-site training in the fundamentals of operating a counterbalanced vertical mast forklift.

  • Pre-use inspection: what to look for and how to complete a pre-use inspection form
  • Technique for safely operating a forklift
  • Driving and maneuvering practice
  • Different fuel types and how to handle them

Skid Steer (Compact Track Loader)

This course was developed by Shop Class STX . Participants will be introduced to basic earthwork concepts and terms. Candidates will learn to find information in the owner’s manual to follow the manufacturer’s operating recommendations.

Safety Training

Fall Protection Awareness (Working at Heights)

This course will make you aware of hazards in the work site that may cause falls. Once completed, participants will be able to perform a pre-use equipment inspection and be trained in how to reduce or eliminate fall hazards. 


Course outline:

  • Recognize the requirement for fall protection
  • Determine when a fall protection plan is required and describe the major components
  • Check and put on a fall arrest harness properly and safely


Confined Space Awareness

This course is essential for anyone who is required to work in confined spaces. Key hazards of confined space include the risk of toxic atmospheres, flammable atmospheres or oxygen deficiency, to name just a few.

Lockout/Tagout

This course provides participants with an opportunity to learn and apply the regulatory requirements for lockout as outlined in occupational health and safety regulations.

Excavation and Trenching Safety

This course introduces students to the regulations related to excavation and trenching; identifying possible hazards, and how to reduce risks by pre-planning.

Load Securement

Properly securing loads for transportation is essential for public safety and compliance with the law.  This course provides trainees with a full understanding of how to comply with B.C.’s load securement regulations.

OSHA 10-Hour Construction

This course focuses on the specific hazards present in the construction industry. Participants will learn to identify risks and use personal protective equipment effectively.

  • Understand the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify fall protection standards and how to apply them on-site.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction

This extensive course provides advanced training on construction safety regulations. Participants will be equipped to manage safety on construction sites effectively.
